10. Estadio Azteca – Mexico City
87,000 (soon 90,000+) I saw Mexico vs Argentina here in 2023. At 2,240 metres altitude, you’re gasping for air by the 70th minute — and so are the players. The wave starts in the upper tier and literally takes 28 seconds to circle the entire bowl. Two World Cup finals, Maradona’s hand, Pelé’s last dance. The renovation for 2026 is nearing completion—and it looks incredible.
Still gives me goosebumps.
9. La Bombonera – Buenos Aires
57,000 (feels like 100,000) The first time the stand bounced, I genuinely thought we were having an earthquake. Then I realised it was just Boca fans jumping in unison. The place is literally shaped like a chocolate box because the architect ran out of land. Visiting players say the same thing: “It’s impossible to play here.” They’re not wrong.
8. San Siro – Milan
75,923 (for now) I’m writing this with a heavy heart because 2026 will probably be its last season. I’ve seen four Champions League finals here. The spiral walkways, the concrete that’s held sweat and tears since 1926, the way the roof traps the noise… I’m going back one more time before they knock it down. If you haven’t been, go next season. Please.
7. Maracanã – Rio de Janeiro
78,838 I watched Flamengo vs Fluminense in 2024 and cried during the national anthem — and I’m not even Brazilian. The 1950 ghost still walks here. They took out the general admission moat for safety, but when 78,000 cariocas start singing, Rio stops existing outside the bowl. That’s why Maracanã is Best Football Stadiums in the World .
6. Allianz Arena – Munich
75,000 It glows. That’s not marketing — it actually changes colour and you can see it from Austria on a clear night. I was here for Bayern vs Dortmund last December. Minus 8°C outside, perfect inside, and the LED façade turned the sky red. Still the most “futuristic” stadium that doesn’t feel cold.
5. Wembley Stadium – London
90,000 I’ve been to the old Wembley (FA Cup final 2000 — grey skies, magic) and the new one more times than I can count. The arch at night is football’s Eiffel Tower. Euro 2020 final, Champions League finals, Play-off finals — if it matters, it happens here. The walk up Wembley Way with 90,000 people still feels like a religious pilgrimage.
4. Signal Iduna Park – Dortmund
81,365 The Yellow Wall. 25,000 people standing, scarves up, singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” better than Liverpool do. I stood in Südtrübüne in 2022 for Dortmund vs Bayern. When they scored in the 89th minute the noise hit 129 dB — my ears rang for two days. Nothing compares.
3. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – London
62,850 Yes, I’m a Gooner. No, that doesn’t stop me admitting this is the best modern stadium in Europe. I went “undercover” in 2023 for Spurs vs Arsenal. The single-tier South Stand is 17,500 people making a noise I didn’t think was possible in a new ground. The cheese room joke is real — and brilliant. Retractable pitch, skywalk, craft beer, perfect sightlines. They built the future.
2. Anfield – Liverpool
61,000 (expanded) I’m not even a Liverpool fan and I tear up every single time “You’ll Never Walk Alone” starts. Champions League nights here are spiritual experiences. I was in the new Anfield Road End for the 4-0 against Barcelona in 2019 (still can’t explain it). The expanded stands made it bigger but somehow louder. If you get one European away day in your life — make it Anfield on a floodlit night.
1. Santiago Bernabéu – Madrid
84,000 (new version)Best Football Stadiums in the World is Santiago Bernabéu. I saw the first match with the roof fully closed in March 2025 — Real Madrid vs Manchester City, Champions League quarter-final. When the roof shuts in 15 minutes and the 360° screen lights up, 84,000 people become one living organism. The noise doesn’t escape — it just bounces around until your ribcage vibrates. Add the LED façade that makes the whole stadium pulse to the chants, and you realise: this isn’t a renovation. This is the new benchmark. Nothing touches it right now.
