History of Cricket
Cricket is believed to have originated in the Weald, a forested region in south-east England, where children first played the game during Saxon or Norman times. The earliest record of cricket being played by adults dates back to 1611, and in the same year, a dictionary also referred to it as a boys’ game. Many historians suggest that cricket may have developed from the game of bowls, where early players tried to stop the ball from hitting a target by striking it away—an action that eventually evolved into the modern batting technique seen in cricket today.
